Yields 10 - 12 fully coated chocolate dipped cookies, or 20 - 24 partially dipped cookies. (1 to 2 batches of the fortune cookie recipe).

Note: While fully coated fortune cookies make a decadent treat, it's much easier to make - and eat - partially dipped cookies. Hold the ends and dip the bottom of the fortune cookie into the chocolate. That way you'll be able to open the ends of the cookie later to get the fortune without getting chocolate on your fingers.

Ingredients:

  • 1 - 2 Batches Fortune Cookies (see recipe directions for link to recipe), as needed
  • 8 ounces sweet dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate

Preparation:

1. Prepare the fortune cookie recipe. Allow the fortune cookies to cool.
2. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment or wax paper.
3. Break the chocolate squares in half. Melt the chocolate in the top half of a double boiler, or in a bowl placed on top of a saucepan partially filled with roiling water. (Note: it's important not to burn the chocolate - make sure the water is not fully boiling, and that the bottom of the bowl does not actually touch the water). Gently stir the chocolate while it is melting.
4. Dip each cookie in the melted chocolate. (Dip the bottom of the cookie or the whole cookie as desired). Allow the excess chocolate to drip off and place the cookie on the wax paper. Use a plastic spatula to smooth and spread out the chocolate on bare spots of the cookie as needed.
5. Place the baking sheets in the refrigerator to cool and set the chocolate.
Note: When making the fortune cookie batter, feel free to use 1 teaspoon almond extract in place of 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract if desired.

Candied walnuts

Candied walnuts are a sugary treat made by coating walnut pieces in sugar and deep-frying. Enjoy them as a snack, or toss them in salads or stir-fries for extra flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups walnut halves or large walnut pieces
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • Oil for deep-frying, as needed
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, black or white, toasted or untoasted, optional

Preparation:

1. Have ready a mesh strainer for scooping up the walnuts, a colander for draining the walnuts, the sugar in small bowl, and a bowl to place the walnuts after draining.
2. In a large saucepan or wok, bring the water to a rolling boil. Add the walnuts. Return to a boil and boil for at least 5 minutes.
3. Remove the walnuts with the mesh strainer, quickly drain in a colander, and place in a large bowl. Immediately stir in the sugar and keep stirring until it has dissolved as much as possible.
4. In a wok, bring peanut or vegetable oil for deep-frying to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 177 degrees Celsius). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Have the sesame seeds ready in a small bowl if you are using them.
5. Add a few walnuts into the oil at first – (this is because the oil may start foaming when the sugar first meets the hot oil). Once the foaming has stopped, carefully lower 1 cup of the walnuts into the oil in a mesh strainer. Turn the walnuts out and deep-fry for 1 – 1 1/2 minutes, until they turn golden brown, taking care not to burn them. (Note: To avoid accidentally burning the walnuts, try deep-frying just a few at first, to get a better idea of the exact amount of time needed to brown them. If you’re still having problems and the nuts are cooking too quickly, you can lower the temperature to between 325 and 330 degrees Fahrenheit – approximately 163 to 166 degrees Celsius).
6. Use the mesh strainer to scoop up and remove the walnuts and turn out onto the aluminum foil. Use a fork to separate the walnuts if needed. Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the walnuts if using. Cool. Store the walnuts in a sealed container. (They can also be made ahead and frozen for up to 3 months).

Honey Walnut Prawns

This popular appetizer consists of plump shrimp that are deep-fried and then folded in a mayonnaise-based sauce and garnished with candied walnuts. The only tricky part comes with deep-frying the walnuts - you can simply fry them instead or leave them out altogether (you'll also find some tips for how to deep-fry walnuts in my recipe for Candied Walnuts. This recipe has been reader-rated at 5 out of 5 stars.

Italy v England: Cristiano Ronaldo v Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Who Is The Best?

Two footballers celebrated and despised in equal measure will face off next week on the grand stage of the Champions League - will the best man win?

Everybody expected UEFA to wave their magic wand and pit Manchester United against Real Madrid in the second round of the Champions League. The battle of Cristiano Ronaldo, the battle of the biggest clubs in the world, Sir Alex Ferguson against 'the Mob', and so on. It actually came as a surprise when the Spanish superpower were instead drawn against United's rivals Liverpool, leaving the reigning champions to face off against Inter in a tie with almost as many provocative permutations and potential for high drama before, during and after the tie. The football might be good, too - but I wouldn't bet on it.

Jose Mourinho, aided and abetted by Roman Abramovich, made the Premier League so fiercely competitive that almost all top-of-the-table clashes became fast-paced but slow-moving wars of attrition. Such a pragmatic approach is bound to translate well to a game like this, with his Inter side lacking in bonafide match-winners but nevertheless a colossal unit, up against a United outfit that has primed itself on constantly applying measured pressure and biding time before making that inevitable breakthrough.

While United have more flair to their front line, there is nevertheless a degree of reliance from both clubs on their star players to provide the magic that makes the difference every week. The game has already been billed not just as Sir Alex against the 'Special One', but also Cristiano Ronaldo against Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It has the makings of a heavyweight title fight in itself. In the Blue corner, there is the tactical and indomitable Evander Holyfield of the piece up against the Red corner's relentless and destructive Mike Tyson, only perhaps slightly less insane.

The X-factor in this instance will be Jose Mourinho, doing his best Don King impersonation to try and see his special one over the line before the games even begin. It was the Portuguese coach who asserted to begin with, soon after the draw, that Ibra was superior to World Player of the Year Ronaldo, while Sir Alex has long lauded his No. 7 as the world's best player and even gone as far as to mention him in the same breath as Pele and Diego Maradona.

Jose and Sir Alex are rightly considered the two best managers in the world - certainly at club level - but it is their head-to-head record that will serve to boost Ibra's confidence. During Jose's time in charge of Chelsea, Fergie may have landed the last punch with his 2007 Premier League triumph, but there can be no doubting who won the fight on points.

However, with the teams pitted against each other, it is clear that the Red corner has more cause for confidence. Both sides top their respective leagues and are reigning champions, but United have been more convincing and prolific, not to mention their previous highs in Europe contrasted by the Nerazzuri's string of premature exits.

The delicate balance could end up being tipped one way or the other by the players themselves over the course of the two legs. Both are supposedly big-game flops, but Ronaldo's track-record inspires more confidence than Ibra's, if for no other reason than last season's Champions League final. Yes, he did miss a penalty, but so have the likes of Roberto Baggio for Italy, Steven Gerrard for England and Andriy Shevchenko for AC Milan in years gone by - what does that make them?

The two of them would struggle to differ more in style of play, but are certainly comparable in terms of their cult status, polarising of public opinion and attitude towards the game itself. Despite being three years Zlatan's junior, Cristiano has always applied himself in such a way as to consistently produce results. For all his posturing, Ronaldo has in many ways been a model professional and an advocate of the dictum that practice really can make perfect.

Ibra, meanwhile, still seems to play on his own terms. Not even Fabio Capello quite managed to wrap his head around the mercurial Swede's weird and wonderful ways - he didn't quite hit top gear. But now, he's playing for Mourinho. We saw it with Chelsea and we are now seeing it with Inter: misfits such as Adriano and Ibrahimovic high-fiving their boss after every goal, his racing down the touchline to celebrate the late winners - the Jose effect.

Nevertheless, it will be Ronaldo who saunters down to the ring next week with the Premier League and Champions League on each shoulder, wearing the Club World Cup as a crown and with the FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d'Or round his waist. He is the man: everything he has done, he has done to better effect than Ibrahimovic - but the time is right for change.

Ronaldo's downfall has already been scripted; it is prematurely being claimed that the 24-year-old's time at the top is coming to an end, for no other reason than his 'failure' to replicate what was a freak 42-goal season. Having said that, there is a wind of change sweeping over world football and Ibra could yet rally against Ronaldo and emerge the unlikely victor, finally realising his potential and beginning a new era of his own as the King of the Continent. Unlikely, maybe - but they don't call him 'Ibracadabra' for no reason, and even neutrals out there might be hoping that for once, this magician doesn't flatter to deceive.

Player Ratings: Real Madrid 6-1 Real Betis

Real Madrid put in a stunning performance to thrash Real Betis and Goal.com was on hand to rate all the players on show.

REAL MADRID

Casillas 5.0
- Had very little to do all match but made an absolute howler when he passed straight to Ricardo Oliveira, and was very lucky not to concede from the chance that followed.

Ramos 7.0 - A very good performance from the right-back who as usual got forward on plenty of occasions and also put in some great tackles at the back. Grabbed a goal with a smart run at the back-post too, and overall it was a good display.

Cannavaro 6.5 - Hardly had anything to do at the back and was taken off at half-time.

Pepe 7.0 - Like most of the defenders he looked very solid all game and made some key tackles to stop Betis in the first-half.

Heinze 6.5 - Always prone to some clumsy challenges and did make a few, one which earned him a booking, but put in a reasonably good display.

Lassana Diarra 7.5
- A key player in the middle of the pitch; made tackles, created chances and seemed to be helping out in both attack and defence.

Gago 6.5 - Not as much of an impact as Diarra but the Argentine held things together well in midfield and picked out a few good passes throughout the match.

Higuain 7.0 - Got Real Madrid off to the perfect start with a very well taken goal early on and always looked a threat with his direct running and passing.

Marcelo 6.5 - Followed on from a good performance against Sporting Gijon last weekend with another one here, the only criticism would be that even though he was involved in the play a lot, he wasted possession and chances too often.

Raul 8.0 - Two goals of the absolute highest quality, and two very different ones as well. The first was a sublime first-time shot from outside the area and the second was a moment of genius as he flicked over Ricardo from a tight angle. Also involved in plenty of the moves in the first-half and got an assist to his name.

Huntelaar 8.0 - Is starting to find some form after a slow start at the club and today he made it three goals in two matches, with a brace in the first-half. Neither was particularly difficult but the fact he is getting in the right place at the right time shows that he is starting to settle at Madrid and he could be a weapon for them this season.

SUBS

Robben 6.0
- Missed a great chance to score in the second-half when he was played through, but apart from that did not have much impact as Madrid took their foot off the gas.

Sneijder 6.0 - Hardly any impact at all.

Guti 6.5 - His first game of the year and he threaded some nice passes around to remind the fans what they have been missing.

REAL BETIS

Ricardo 4.5
- Is prone to making errors in goal and after putting in such a great performance against Barcelona last week, it was a shame he was poor tonight. Made some poor punches and also flapped at a few balls that he really didn't need to even come for.

Nelson 5.5 - Was brilliant against Sevilla two weeks ago, but just didn't get going tonight and was given a tough time in defence.

Melli 4.5 - Dragged all over the place in the first-half and really couldn't get to grips with the movement from the Madrid strikers.

Arzu 5.0 - The more experienced of the two centre-backs but like his partner, he went missing far too often and lost challenges that he should have won.

Vega 5.0 - Beaten way too many times down the flank and even though he did put some good tackles in, he was not sharp enough to deal with the Madrid front men.

Emana 5.5 - Battled really hard in midfield but just came up against a player at the top of his game in Diarra and couldn't match him for most of the game.

Juande 5.0 - Not strong enough to compete with the Real Madrid midfield and was dominated for most of the match.

Aurelio 5.0 - Tried his best to cover the defence and get forward, but once his side went behind he looked unsure what he should be doing and ending up not being particularly effective.

Damia 5.0 - Had a great chance to score early on but couldn't take it and then after that he drifted out of the match and didn't receive the ball enough.

Gonzalez 4.5 - Didn't have any luck against Sergio Ramos at all and was not involved in the game as much as his coach would have wanted.

Oliveira 6.0 - Scored the only goal for Betis with a brilliant strike but he also missed a superb chance to bring them right back into the match at 3-1 when Casillas gifted him a pass outside the box.

SUBS

Monzon 6.0 - Didn't change the match at all.

Rivera 6.0 - Came on late.

Juanma 6.0 - No impact.

Some LA Galaxy Fans Don’t Want Beckham Back

Golden Balls is likely to remain in the Serie A - and at least a few Galaxy fans have made it clear they don't mind at all.

David Beckham’s short loan spell in Milan is set to expire in early March, meaning that he was initially expected to return to the LA Galaxy immediately following its completion.

Obviously, both he and the Rossoneri are hoping that this will not have to be the case, as Beckham has managed to rediscover some of his very best form whilst playing in the fashion capital.

According to the latest reports from the Daily Mail though, some fans of his MLS club have expressed their displeasure that the Englishman’s future is more likely to lie in Milan.

These fans of the Galaxy recently produced a few T-shirts and banners against the return of Beckham, as they now consider him a traitor at the club.

Yet at a recent preseason Galaxy game, jerseys with Beckham's name on the back far outnumbered the few hand-drawn T-shirts with his number crossed out. It is clear many would forgive Beckham if he returned to the club.

Still, on team message boards, many Galaxy fans have voiced their disappointment at Beckham's desire to leave their team and have urged club management to hold out for a fair compensation for the English midfielder. There has been much scorn heaped upon Milan's reported opening offer of $3 million for Beckham.

The Italian club has returned to the bargaining table to sweeten the deal.

Milan vice president Adriano Galliani recently declared that “the clubs were reaching an agreement”, and that a deal could quite possibly be finalized by Tuesday.

Rossi: Inter Can Win Against United

Former Manchester United man Giuseppe Rossi has backed Inter to win their Champions League tie against the English giants next week.

With Manchester United still on track for an unprecedented quadruple, and Inter with a point to prove to all of Europe, the match between the two northern giants was always going to be big.

It forms a third of the trinity of Italy v England ties Europe’s premier competition has thrown up, and while the English team are the favourites for most people, one man, who has experience of playing football in both countries, believes the side from Milan can win.

Ex-Manchester United and Parma forward Guiseppe Rossi told La Gazzetta Dello Sport, “I have met Manchester United twice recently, while playing for Villarreal, and they are great.

“They play some fantastic football, but they don’t pressure you much, I think Inter are more solid.

“It’s a strong point of all [Inter boss Jose] Mourinho’s teams, they know how to win even if they play badly, and Inter’s recent achievements in Italy are there for all to see.”

It seems then, that Rossi believes Manchester United’s lack of pressing, could be their undoing on Tuesday, and Inter certainly have a side that is the physical match of their opponents.

Rossi, like the rest of Europe, will only have to wait a few more days to see what will happen.

PBB Perintahkan Gencatan Senjata, Israel Tak Peduli

NEW YORK - Perang masih saja berkecamuk, meski Dewan Keamanan Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa (DK PBB) memerintahkan gencatan senjata.

Korban WNA

Hari keempat belas pertempuran kemarin ditandai jatuhnya korban tewas asing pertama.

Sampai tadi malam, sedikitnya 778 warga Palestina, termasuk 219 anak, tewas.

SBY Dukung Resolusi DK PBB

Manchester City Targeting Kaka, Messi, Villa & Terry

The Daily Mail claims that Manchester City will attempt to land either Kaka, Lionel Messi, David Villa or John Terry during the winter transfer window.

According to the tabloid, Sky Blues boss Mark Hughes has been promised one superstar signing by the the club's Abu Dhabi-based benefactor, Shiekh Mansour.

The Welsh manager has focused on comparitively low-key targets thus far, with Blackburn Rovers' Roque Santa Cruz and West Ham United duo Craig Bellamy and Scott Parker tipped to join Wayne Bridge at Eastlands.

But once Hughes feels he has added enough depth to his relegation-threatened squad, he will be given the green light to chase any of the four fantasy-footballers on City's shortlist.

The North West club have been linked with Kaka ever since their mega-money takeover at the end of last summer - and the subsequent £32 million purchase of Robinho from Real Madrid. Indeed, at point it seemed the AC Milan playmaker might be open to the possibility of joining his fellow Brazilian in Manchester, but he wasted little time quashing those rumours.

John Terry is another name that cropped in early September, and perhaps the link makes more sense now than it did then. Hughes' troops have been woefully inconsistent at the back, a problem the England captain's arrival could go along way towards fixing. However, the likely of him leaving Chelsea is... well, it's not going to happen, to put it bluntly. He's challenging for the Premier League title and already getting paid bucketloads - why would he move?

Similarly, Lionel Messi has no reason to ditch high-flying Barcelona for a side who were recently humiliated by Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup. The diminutive Argentine is arguably the world's most exciting player, currently starring for arguably the world's most exciting team. Another no-go, it would seem.

And then there is David Villa. The Valencia striker has been persistently linked with City over the past few weeks, and it was even reported last month that the clubs had opened negotiations. But the latest reports from Spain suggest the EURO 2008 winner will not be leaving the Mestalla this winter, even though the cash-strapped La Liga outfit could really use the sizeable transfer fee that would come with Villa's sale.

So will any of these four make their way to the City of Manchester Stadium by the beginning of February? Only time will tell, but on the surface it seems an exercise in futility for Sparky and the Sheikh.
